The European soft drinks trade association, UNESDA, has announced the appointment of Andrew McMillin as its new president. McMillin, currently serving as president of Western Europe operations at Coca-Cola, will take over from Peter Harding, CEO of Suntory Beverage & Food International. This transition comes at a pivotal time for UNESDA, as the organization continues to expand its membership and influence within the European market. Nicholas Hodac, UNESDA’s general director, expressed enthusiasm about working with McMillin to advance the sector’s initiatives. The incoming president emphasized the importance of innovation and sustainability in driving the industry forward.
In his new role, McMillin brings extensive experience from his tenure at Coca-Cola, where he has overseen operations across Western Europe. He highlighted the critical role that the soft drinks sector plays in supporting the European economy, contributing significantly to employment and generating substantial value through its supply chain. McMillin pledged to advocate for policies that foster innovation and growth within the industry while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. His priorities include aligning with the European Commission’s focus on competitiveness and promoting science-based food policies to encourage healthier consumer choices.
McMillin also stressed the importance of engaging stakeholders to ensure that policy discussions reflect the evolving needs of consumers and the realities of business operations. He aims to work closely with UNESDA’s network of members and partners to shape future-proof policies that support the industry’s long-term success. Prior to this appointment, McMillin held leadership positions at Coca-Cola, including serving as president and chief commercial officer for the company’s North American operations.
Peter Harding, the outgoing president, received high praise for his exceptional leadership during his tenure. Under his guidance, UNESDA strengthened its strategic direction and built constructive relationships within the EU. As McMillin takes the helm, he is committed to continuing Harding’s legacy by advancing the industry’s goals and ensuring sustainable progress in the European soft drinks sector.
