Meet the Distinguished Honorees of This Year's Conservation Accolades

This year, a select group of five families has earned this distinguished honor. Their stories and methods, which exemplify sustainable agriculture, are scheduled for an online feature throughout the current week and will also be highlighted in the upcoming September issue of American Agriculturist. The celebrated families include the Hatfield family from Bethel, consisting of Ernie, Lowell \"Dewey,\" and Mark; the Miller family, Brad and Matilda, residing in Wingett Run; the Corcoran family from Chillicothe, comprising Greg, Dennis, Dan, and Tim; the Atterholt family, Mike and Aaron, located in Loudonville; and the McBride family, Jerry and Jayna, from Dola.

A Legacy of Leadership in Agricultural Conservation

Initially conceived by Ohio Farmer magazine, the awards program is now expertly managed by the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Division of Soil and Water Conservation. It benefits from the continued co-sponsorship of Ohio Farmer magazine and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, underscoring a united commitment to promoting ecological balance in farming.

Driving Innovation Through Sustainable Agricultural Techniques

A core objective of this esteemed program is to highlight and promote the adoption of cutting-edge, technically sound, and economically viable conservation strategies. It actively encourages these leading farm families to disseminate their valuable knowledge and practices among their peers in the agricultural community and to the wider public, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

Celebrating Excellence and Inspiring Future Generations

All five recognized families will be formally celebrated at a public ceremony on September 18th, held during the Farm Science Review. This event will include a private luncheon for the honorees, providing an opportunity for them to share their experiences and connect. Additionally, each winning family will receive a four hundred dollar prize, generously provided by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, in recognition of their exemplary contributions to conservation.
