In the winter sports season of 2024-25, Lafayette high schools showcased remarkable athletic talent and thrilling moments. Among these standout performances were dramatic game-winning shots, impressive wrestling maneuvers, and record-breaking swimming feats that left spectators in awe.

The basketball court saw some extraordinary achievements by local athletes. Malachi King, a senior forward from Harrison, was pivotal in securing his team’s first sectional championship since 1999. Known for his versatility, King averaged nearly 20 points per game while excelling in rebounds and assists. His performance against Kokomo, where he scored a crucial three-pointer while falling out of bounds, underscored his leadership qualities. Meanwhile, Alonzo Clawson-Smith from Lafayette Jeff emerged as one of the top scorers in the region with consistent shooting accuracy and defensive prowess. Clawson-Smith's commitment to Indiana University-Kokomo reflects his promising future in collegiate sports.

Beyond seasoned veterans like King and Clawson-Smith, young talents also made their mark. Brody Baker, a sophomore guard at McCutcheon, transformed into one of the state's premier shooters. Demonstrating exceptional skill during a comeback victory over West Lafayette, Baker delivered a memorable buzzer-beater from beyond half-court. Additionally, Ray Gibson of Harrison provided steady guidance through his role as point guard, contributing significantly to his team’s offensive rhythm throughout the season.
