Ayonnie Houston of Rutherford was named last week's athlete of the week. In the preseason wrestler of the year polls, voting will end at noon on Tuesday. Meanwhile, at the Buccaneer Winter Classic, Sarah Branch earned gold in the 130-pound weight class with an impressive 5-0 record. Tor’Rina Rushing took the top spot in the 190-pound weight class with two victories. Larissa Elliott won two matches to claim first place in the 140-pound weight class, and Hayden Hauck won four of five matches, finishing second in the 100-pounds weight class. Cash Zirkle had an outstanding game with 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the Bucks' victory over Ponce De Leon. Jack Mulnix won all four matches, earning first place in the 138-pounds weight class at the CPM Border Wars.
Emylee Perez made it to the 120-pound final and finished second. Jamie Hernandez had 22 points and five rebounds in the win over Ponce De Leon. Julia Falgout won three of four matches, earning second at 130-pounds. Emily Myers also won three of four matches, finishing second at 135-pounds.
At North Bay Haven, Gracelynn Janssen won three of four matches, earning second in the 115-pounds weight class. McKenzie Rimmer contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds and two steals in the 59-39 victory over Arnold. Paicey Millrons scored 22 points, five rebounds and four steals in the 48-18 victory over Port St. Joe. Kaylee Goodpaster poured in 11 points, 11 rebounds and five steals in the season debut victory over Port. St. Joe.
