Crafting a Lego Legacy: Wisconsin Fan's Passion Brings Iconic Sausages to Life
Wisconsin sports enthusiast and former Milwaukee resident Todd Elliott has taken a remarkable step in bringing his Milwaukee Brewers Famous Racing Sausages Lego set idea to fruition. After designing and rendering Lego figurines of the five iconic sausages and team mascot Bernie Brewer, Elliott has now successfully built the Bratwurst sausage in real life, paving the way for his ambitious Lego project to potentially become a reality.Bringing the Brewers' Beloved Sausages to the Lego Realm
Designing the Iconic Sausages
Elliott, an Army veteran who has completed over 60 marathons, utilized the Lego ideating software Studio by BrickLink to create detailed Lego models of the Brewers' famous racing sausages and their beloved mascot, Bernie Brewer. The process involved designing and rendering Lego figurines of the Bratwurst, Polish Sausage, Italian Sausage, Hot Dog, and Chorizo, each standing approximately 9 inches high and 4 inches wide, and comprising around 500 Lego bricks.Overcoming Design Challenges
While the design process was relatively straightforward, Elliott faced a unique challenge when it came to translating his digital designs into physical Lego models. The Lego design software allowed him to use any piece that Lego has ever produced, including colors that have never been manufactured. This presented an issue when it came time to bring the sausages to life, as many of the specific pieces and shades he had used in his digital designs did not actually exist in the real world.Bringing the Bratwurst to Life
Undeterred, Elliott carefully analyzed his designs and found that the Bratwurst sausage required the fewest custom pieces. By making some minor adjustments, such as using white socks and a slightly different head design, Elliott was able to produce a physical Bratwurst model using only existing Lego bricks. This accomplishment has not only brought his vision one step closer to reality but has also inspired him to continue his quest to create the remaining sausage figurines using only available Lego pieces.Garnering Support from Brewers Fans
Elliott's passion for the project has not gone unnoticed. After posting his Lego designs on the Lego Ideas platform, where users can share their ideas and potentially have them turned into official Lego sets, Elliott's creations have received an overwhelmingly positive response from Brewers fans. Many have expressed their enthusiasm, stating that they would purchase the set for their children, nieces, and nephews, further fueling Elliott's determination to bring this unique Lego set to life. The Path to Lego Immortality
To have his designs considered for official Lego production, Elliott's Brewers Famous Racing Sausages Lego set must first receive 10,000 votes from Lego Ideas users. Currently, the project has garnered over 2,100 votes, and Elliott is working tirelessly to reach the next milestone of 5,000 votes within the next five months. If successful, the designs will undergo a review by Lego, and if approved, there is a strong possibility that the product could be available in time for the next baseball season.A Lifelong Passion Realized
Elliott's journey with this Lego project has been a labor of love, fueled by his lifelong passion for the iconic Milwaukee Brewers and his enduring love for Lego. From rediscovering the Racing Sausages plushies he had purchased for his children years ago to meticulously designing and building the Bratwurst sausage, Elliott's dedication to bringing this unique Lego set to life is a testament to the power of perseverance and the enduring appeal of the beloved Brewers brand.
