The University of Toledo Appoints a New Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration

Lee Johnson, a UToledo graduate with an extensive background in higher education financial leadership, will be joining the university on Monday, Dec. 2. His diverse career includes stints at renowned institutions such as the former Medical College of Ohio and Siena Heights University.

Larry Kelley, who had previously led the university's financial operations from 2015 to 2018 and rejoined in June, is stepping down due to health reasons. Interim President Matt Schroeder expressed his gratitude, stating, "We want to thank Larry for his unwavering support and advocacy for the success of UToledo. His contributions during this period of transition have been invaluable. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

Dr. J. Lee Johnson's Background

Dr. Johnson retired from Siena Heights University in 2023 after 18 years. As a certified public accountant, he has held key financial leadership positions at institutions like Lawrence Technological University and the former Medical College of Ohio. He has served as the vice president for finance and administration, treasurer, controller, and finance officer. His expertise extends beyond financial management as he is a peer reviewer and team chair for the Higher Learning Commission. In 2018, he received the HLC Outstanding Service Award and was elected to the HLC Board of Trustees. Additionally, he is a member of the Mount Marty University Board of Trustees and a faculty member for the University of Central Oklahoma's Educators' Leadership Academy.Johnson's educational achievements are also remarkable. He received his Ph.D. in higher education administration from UToledo and was named the Judith Herb College of Education Distinguished Alumni in 2023. He has also served on the UToledo Alumni Association Board of Trustees and the UToledo Foundation Board of Trustees. Furthermore, he holds a master of business administration from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor of science in business administration in finance from Ohio State University.
