Ubisoft has revealed a substantial corporate reorganization aimed at enhancing efficiency and realigning its strategic objectives. This strategic shift includes the discontinuation of several game development projects and the implementation of a new operational framework designed to foster innovation and focus.
As part of its restructuring efforts, Ubisoft confirmed the closure of some studios and modifications within others, such as those in Abu Dhabi, RedLynx, and Massive. This also entails a renewed emphasis on in-office work, with employees expected to be present five days a week, complemented by annual provisions for remote work. Concurrently, the company has ceased development on six titles, notably the anticipated 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake,' three new intellectual properties, and a mobile game. Conversely, seven other games will receive extended development timelines to ensure they meet the company's quality benchmarks, with one major release postponed to fiscal year 2027. Ubisoft's future direction will heavily lean towards open-world and 'Games as a Service' models, supported by targeted investments in advanced technologies, including generative AI.
A core element of this transformation is the establishment of five distinct 'creative houses' starting in April. Each house will bear full responsibility for its game portfolio, from development to market launch, specializing in genres such as flagship titles (Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry), competitive shooters (The Division, Ghost Recon), live service games (For Honor, The Crew), narrative adventures (Anno, Prince of Persia), and family-friendly entertainment (Just Dance, Uno). This comprehensive restructuring is set to unfold over the next three years, with further details expected to be disclosed by Ubisoft on February 12, 2026, as the company endeavors to refine its offerings and optimize resource allocation.
This bold move by Ubisoft reflects a commitment to adapting to the evolving landscape of the gaming industry. By consolidating resources, streamlining development processes, and embracing cutting-edge technologies like generative AI, the company aims to deliver high-quality, engaging experiences to its audience. Such strategic reorientations, while challenging, are often necessary for long-term growth and success in a competitive market, fostering a future where creativity and technological advancement converge to redefine interactive entertainment.
