Medway High School Students Honored for Exceptional Volunteer Service

Medway, MA - Medway High School is proud to announce that two of its students, Oviya and Aadhavan Sivakumar, have been recognized with the prestigious President's Volunteer Service Award by the Medway Village Food Pantry. The siblings, a sophomore and junior respectively, have dedicated countless hours to supporting the local community through their volunteer efforts.

Empowering the Community, One Volunteer Hour at a Time

Oviya Sivakumar: Spearheading Client Order Management

Oviya Sivakumar, a sophomore at Medway High School, has been recognized with a Gold Level President's Volunteer Service Award for her outstanding contributions to the Medway Village Food Pantry. Over the course of 12 months, from September 2023 to August 2024, Oviya dedicated an impressive 107 hours of her time to the organization.Oviya's dedication and leadership were particularly noteworthy, as she took on the primary responsibility of managing the pantry's clients' orders. This task, which previously required two people to handle, is now largely managed by Oviya's efficient and organized approach. Her level-headedness and willingness to step in and help whenever needed have been invaluable to the smooth operation of the food pantry.

Aadhavan Sivakumar: A Steady and Capable Presence

Aadhavan Sivakumar, Oviya's older brother and a junior at Medway High School, has also been recognized for his exceptional volunteer service. He earned a Bronze Level President's Volunteer Service Award for dedicating 103.5 hours to the Medway Village Food Pantry over the same 12-month period.Aadhavan has been a consistent and reliable presence at the pantry, often assisting clients by helping them carry their bags to their cars. He has also paid close attention to the needs of those shopping in the gluten-free section, providing assistance and guidance as needed. Aadhavan's willingness to take on new tasks and shift his focus without hesitation has made him an invaluable asset to the organization.

Both Oviya and Aadhavan have demonstrated a remarkable level of dedication and selflessness in their volunteer work. They consistently arrive before 8 a.m. to open the pantry and often stay after their morning shift has ended to help restock the shelves, ensuring that the facility is well-prepared to serve the community."We are very proud of this pair of students earning this award," said Principal John Murray.
