The Lake County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the victim as Emily Wegleiz, a 30-year-old resident of Vernon Hills. An autopsy performed on Monday revealed that Wegleiz died as a result of blunt force injuries sustained during the vehicle collision.The incident occurred on Friday evening around 10:43 p.m. in the 900 block of South Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills. According to the Vernon Hills Police Department, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck while attempting to cross the northbound lanes of the roadway.

Lifesaving Efforts and Tragic Outcome

The first responding officers immediately initiated lifesaving measures on Wegleiz, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. Paramedics from the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District arrived at the scene and took over the medical care, but Wegleiz succumbed to the severity of her injuries."Wegleiz was pronounced dead due to the extent of her injuries," stated Vernon Hills Deputy Police Chief Shannon Holubetz.
