An early morning collision on Mound Road in Sterling Heights has left three individuals hospitalized with serious injuries. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Monday when a vehicle traveling northbound collided with another car at the intersection of 18 Mile Road. Authorities suspect that alcohol and excessive speed were contributing factors to this severe accident. Following the crash, all lanes of Mound Road were closed for approximately eight hours while investigators assessed the scene. All three victims are currently listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

The crash involved a 48-year-old local resident and his passenger, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, who hails from Detroit. According to Captain Mario Bastianelli of the Sterling Heights Police Department, the impact was so intense that it sent one of the vehicles across the median into southbound traffic. Video footage captured by WWJ Newsradio 950’s Charlie Langton revealed the extent of the damage, highlighting the severity of the collision. “The state of the vehicles clearly indicates that this was an extremely powerful impact,” said Bastianelli, emphasizing the dangerous nature of the incident.

Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They believe that both intoxication and speeding played significant roles in the event. While no names have been disclosed yet, authorities are committed to thoroughly examining all aspects of the case to ensure justice is served. The closure of Mound Road caused considerable disruption to local traffic but has since been fully reopened.

Although the injured parties are expected to survive, the seriousness of their injuries underscores the critical need for responsible driving practices. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of impaired driving and the importance of adhering to traffic laws. As the investigation progresses, authorities urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or behaviors on the road.
