A tragic incident unfolded early Friday morning in Clearwater, Florida, where a 16-year-old student was critically injured while cycling to school. The accident occurred just before 6:40 AM at the intersection of Keene Road and Cleveland Street. According to local authorities, the young cyclist was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Keene Road. The teenager was immediately rushed to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Residents living near the scene described the aftermath as chaotic. Jolene Lisowski, a neighbor, recounted hearing sirens and witnessing the intersection blocked off. "We saw the bicycle lying far ahead of the car," she said. Both Jolene and her husband expressed concern about the safety of this particular intersection, noting that they have observed several serious accidents in the area. Due to these concerns, Mickey Lisowski has decided to stop cycling in the vicinity altogether.

The community's reaction underscores the importance of pedestrian and cyclist safety. Clearwater Police Chief Eric Gandy emphasized the need for heightened awareness, especially around school zones. He reminded both drivers and cyclists to remain vigilant, even when traffic signals indicate it is safe to proceed. This incident serves as a poignant reminder that everyone must take proactive measures to ensure road safety, particularly during peak hours when students are commuting to school. While investigations continue, the focus remains on preventing future tragedies and fostering safer travel environments for all.
