The Taunton High School culinary arts program has taken a significant leap forward with the introduction of the Tiger Truck, an innovative mobile kitchen that offers students hands-on experience in the food service industry. Launched officially on January 17th, the truck provides senior students like Brandon Molina and Jehieliz Villegas with practical training in a real-world setting. The launch event, held at Bristol County Savings Bank, saw the team serving smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, and fries to enthusiastic patrons. Both Molina and Villegas expressed their excitement about the opportunity to gain valuable skills and confidence for future careers in culinary arts.

For students at Taunton High School, the Tiger Truck represents more than just a food service vehicle; it's an extension of the school’s career technical education (CTE) program. This initiative allows participants to learn essential skills while contributing positively to their community. Co-director Darla Hartung highlighted how this program prepares students for potential entrepreneurial ventures by giving them exposure to customer interaction and business operations. Since November, the truck has been making appearances around town, participating in various city events and practicing food operations.

The development of the Tiger Truck began last fall with a generous $75,000 donation from Bristol County Savings Bank, which was matched by federal funds, totaling $150,000. This investment not only brought the food truck to life but also facilitated improvements to the Tiger Den Café, another student-run establishment within the high school. Superintendent John Cabral praised the effort, emphasizing the importance of providing students with practical applications in the food services industry. Moving forward, plans include regular weekly operations and availability for event bookings and catering services.

As spring approaches, the Tiger Truck is set to increase its presence in Taunton, operating several days a week. With consistent scheduling and expanded services, the program aims to offer students continuous learning opportunities while serving the community.
