A high-speed chase through Lacey, Washington, ended in a devastating head-on collision that claimed one life and left two others injured. The incident, which unfolded on a Saturday afternoon, has sparked outrage and raised questions about the need for more effective measures to address public safety concerns.

Suspect's Erratic Behavior Triggers Pursuit

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident began when a woman, who had allegedly stolen a vehicle from King County, approached several people in the Meadows neighborhood of Lacey, asking for the powerful opioid fentanyl. When one person asked her to leave, she reportedly stepped on the gas and drove towards them, setting off a chain of events that would ultimately lead to a tragic outcome.

High-Speed Chase and Attempted Intervention

Deputies spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to pull the woman over, but she refused to comply and instead began dangerously passing other cars in a no-passing zone. In a desperate attempt to stop the reckless driver, officers deployed spike strips on Pacific Avenue near the Olympia city limits. However, the suspect continued to drive recklessly, even into oncoming traffic, leading to the devastating head-on collision.

Devastating Collision and Casualties

The collision involved the suspect's vehicle and another vehicle, which was carrying a driver and two passengers. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the victims injured and requiring their transport to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Tragically, one of the passengers, identified as 70-year-old Gina Munna, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Suspect's Criminal History and Potential Charges

According to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, the suspect had a lengthy criminal history, with a total of 47 previous arrests, including four felonies and 23 gross misdemeanors. She also had two misdemeanor convictions, multiple accounts of driving without a license, and outstanding warrants from Issaquah, Seattle, and Renton for theft and evading police.The suspect is likely to face a slew of additional felony charges, including second-degree murder, two counts of vehicular assault, attempting to elude a police vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony hit and run, second-degree assault, and driving with a suspended license.

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol are working together to investigate the initial interactions the suspect had with the neighborhood residents, as well as the pursuit and the deadly crash.
