To address this issue, Chief Paul Williams has proposed a comprehensive plan to allocate nearly $800,000 toward immediate needs that cannot be covered by the regular budget. Among the proposed expenditures are advanced surveillance technologies such as license plate recognition cameras, an armored vehicle for enhanced protection, ballistic shields, and safety barriers. These measures were prompted by recent incidents, including an attack in New Orleans earlier this year, which highlighted the need for improved security infrastructure. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be redirected to recruitment efforts. Chief Williams emphasized the importance of attracting new officers to fill the vacancies, stating that resources previously allocated for unfilled positions would now be used to bolster the force.
