A mother in Shreveport, Louisiana, has been charged with multiple counts of child desertion after reportedly leaving her five young children unattended for extended periods. Authorities became involved when a concerned relative reported the situation to law enforcement. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman had not been present at home with her children since February 13th. The oldest child, aged six, mentioned that their mother briefly visited on the morning of February 15th to deliver breakfast before departing again. This incident led to further scrutiny and ultimately the arrest of the mother on February 17th, adding to her existing warrants for similar offenses.

In early February, officers responded to a residence on Virginia Avenue following reports of five minors being left unsupervised. A family member contacted authorities due to the mother's unavailability and absence. During the inquiry, it came to light that the mother, Leanisha Broom, had missed work for two consecutive days and hadn't been seen at home since February 13th. According to the eldest child, Broom made a brief appearance on February 15th to provide breakfast before claiming she needed to go to work. However, this visit did not alleviate concerns about the safety and well-being of the children.

The case took a more serious turn when investigators found that Broom already faced charges for child desertion from previous years. An active bench warrant existed for three counts dating back to 2023, along with another count from 2021. Efforts by the U.S. Marshals Office to locate and apprehend Broom on February 13th were unsuccessful. As a result, the Shreveport Police Department intensified its efforts to find her. Meanwhile, Child Protective Services intervened to ensure the immediate safety of the children, placing them under the care of a family member pending further investigation.

Broom's arrest on February 17th brought an end to the search. She now faces additional charges, including five new counts of child desertion for abandoning her children, whose ages range from five months to six years.
