In a concerning development at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, authorities have charged Branson Albert with an additional 12 felony offenses. This latest indictment comes after a series of incidents where vehicles belonging to travelers were targeted while parked in the airport’s garage. Albert has been accused of exploiting the absence of vehicle owners to commit thefts, marking a continuation of his alleged criminal activities. Prosecutors have expressed frustration over the recurring nature of these crimes and the challenges faced in preventing Albert from reoffending.
The allegations against Albert stem from a pattern of behavior that has persisted even after his release from custody on similar charges. According to court documents, Albert has accumulated 33 warrants over the past decade and is currently facing multiple pending felony cases. In one recent incident, Federal Way police were forced to fire shots during his arrest when he was found driving a vehicle stolen from the airport. Despite this, Albert was released without bail following a court appearance in November.
Within weeks of his release, law enforcement reported that Albert returned to the airport, resulting in at least six more victims whose vehicles were either stolen or broken into. Prosecutors are now grappling with the ongoing cycle of crime and are seeking higher bail amounts to prevent further offenses. Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, highlighted the difficulty in addressing such repetitive criminal behavior. “The repeated violations of court orders only add to the frustration felt by everyone involved,” McNerthney remarked.
Prosecutors plan to persist in their efforts to demonstrate the seriousness of Albert’s actions and advocate for measures that can curb his repeated offenses. They aim to present evidence in court that underscores the need for stricter legal intervention to protect the public and ensure justice is served.
