One of the significant achievements of the RAPC this year was its impact on diabetes management. As Loretta Wilson, the Founder and CEO, shared, "We'll hear testimonies from those individuals who had A1C levels that were in diabetic range, who are no longer in that range." This transformation was specifically brought about through a combination of education, follow-through, tracking, monitoring, and coaching. It shows the tangible results that can be achieved when a dedicated center like the RAPC focuses on prevention and early intervention.
The RAPC's goal of reducing the rate of chronic illness in rural Alabama, particularly in the Black Belt region, is a noble one. Wilson emphasizes that in 2025, in addition to diabetes, they will also be concentrating on tobacco prevention and fighting obesity. These areas are crucial in improving the overall health of the community and addressing some of the underlying factors that contribute to chronic illness.
By working directly with people and providing them with the support they need, the RAPC is making a real difference in the lives of those in rural Alabama. Their approach is holistic, addressing not only the physical aspects of health but also the social and emotional factors that can impact well-being.
As we look ahead to 2025, the Rural Alabama Prevention Center remains committed to its mission of improving the health of the community. With their focus on diabetes, tobacco prevention, and obesity, they are poised to make even greater strides in the coming year.
