Razorbacks Dominate Northeastern State in Preseason Clash

The Arkansas Razorbacks women's basketball team kicked off their preseason campaign with a commanding 68-39 victory over the Northeastern State River Hawks. Despite some areas of concern, the Razorbacks showcased their offensive firepower and defensive intensity, setting the stage for a promising season ahead.

Razorbacks Flex Their Muscles in Dominant Preseason Win

Higginbottom and Lawrence Lead the Charge

The Razorbacks were led by a dynamic duo of Izzy Higginbottom and Jenna Lawrence, who combined for 35 points. Higginbottom, in her first game with the Razorbacks, put on an impressive display, scoring 18 points and dishing out 5 assists. Her body control and deceptiveness with the ball were key factors in her success. Lawrence, a sophomore, also made her presence felt, knocking down 6 points, including a crucial three-pointer late in the first half. The Razorbacks' offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting an impressive 54.5% from the field and 54.5% from beyond the arc. Carly Keats and Vera Ojenuwa also contributed to the scoring effort, with Keats adding 8 points and Ojenuwa chipping in 4 points off the bench.

Defensive Intensity and Rebounding Concerns

While the Razorbacks' offense was clicking, there were some areas of concern, particularly on the defensive end and on the glass. The River Hawks were able to rack up 7 offensive rebounds, and the Razorbacks will need to focus on improving their rebounding if they want to hold their own against Division I opponents. The Razorbacks' defense, however, was solid, limiting the River Hawks to just 29.4% shooting from the field and 25% from three-point range. The team's ability to force turnovers and disrupt the opposing offense will be crucial as they prepare for the regular season.

Promising Start for the Razorbacks

Despite the lopsided score, the Razorbacks' performance provided a glimpse of their potential. The team's offensive firepower, led by Higginbottom and Lawrence, was on full display, and the coaching staff will undoubtedly work to address the rebounding concerns in the coming weeks. As the Razorbacks look ahead to their regular season opener against Fairfield, this preseason victory serves as a solid foundation to build upon. With continued improvement and a focus on addressing their weaknesses, the Razorbacks are poised to make a strong statement in the upcoming season.
