Officers from the Pomona Police Department were in pursuit of a black BMW X6 on the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway on Friday afternoon. The chase began around 4:45 p.m. near Kellogg Drive, as the driver of the BMW allegedly began driving the wrong way on the freeway.A Deadly Crash
The driver of the BMW, identified as 30-year-old Erick Daniel Bolanos of Montclair, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a dirt berm. The BMW then rolled several times onto the transition road from the northbound Chino Valley (71) Freeway. The impact of the crash ejected two passengers from the vehicle, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.Aftermath and Investigations
One of the deceased passengers was identified as 34-year-old Joey Gomez, who died from blunt traumatic injuries. The identity of the second passenger has not yet been released. A third passenger, a 45-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his abdomen and was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital for treatment.The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is leading the investigation into the crash, with assistance from the CHP Southern Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
