In Pearland, a local organization is facing a critical situation as they strive to meet the increasing demand for food among the less fortunate. With more people relying on their pantry, they are struggling to keep it stocked. This non-profit organization plays a vital role in ensuring that food remains on the tables of those in need. "Join Hands to End Hunger in Pearland"
Background and Struggle
Christian Helping Hands in Pearland has been facing difficulties in maintaining an adequate supply of food on their shelves. As volunteer Hita Dixon points out, "The other day this was full and now it's empty." They typically assist around 40 families daily, but recently, that number has surged to 70. The need to help families is on the rise, and it's been one challenge after another.
Christie Lyons and her husband have endured a tragic year. They lost their 5-year-old son with autism in a drowning accident. "I don't think we will ever be the same," she says. Just a few months later, they welcomed a baby girl, but finding joy in the new baby was difficult amidst their mourning. Facing homelessness in San Antonio due to the painful memories, they moved to Houston for a fresh start, which hasn't been easy.
Current Situation and Priorities
Now, they have a place and are both working. While they may not have a couch or a Christmas tree, their top priority is providing food for their kids. "We might not have all the luxuries, but we will do our best to have a holiday," Lyons states. Organizations like Christian Helping Hands step in to fill the gaps and offer much-needed support.
Volunteers hope that every bit of food they receive can make a significant difference in lifting these families out of their difficult situations. As Dixon says, "Hopefully they can get out of the situation." If you wish to contribute and help keep food on their shelves, you can donate from Monday through Friday before noon at 4305 Magnolia Pkwy, Pearland, TX 77584, or call (281) 485-9776.
