Oklahoma's Stunning Upset over No. 7 Alabama: A Masterclass in Football

Nov 25, 2024 at 12:00 AM
On Saturday night, Oklahoma left their fanbase, the SEC, and the entire college football world in awe. With a resounding 24 - 3 victory over the highly ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, they stamped their mark on the 2024 season. It was Alabama's first visit to Norman since 2002, and Oklahoma dominated every aspect of the game along the line of scrimmage for three hours.

Oklahoma's Heroic Upset - A Game to Remember

No. 1 Star - Jackson Arnold and Xavier Robinson

It would be a mistake to single out just one of these two outstanding players. Jackson Arnold and Xavier Robinson combined for an astonishing 43 carries, amassing 238 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Robinson's ability to run through contact as a freshman is truly remarkable and was on full display against the veteran Tide defense. Arnold, too, showed his toughness as a runner, demonstrating the competitive fire we've come to expect from Oklahoma quarterbacks.

Joe Jon Finley's playcalling was on point, and Arnold and Robinson rewarded his faith in the run game. With a dominant offensive line providing the foundation, the Sooners rode the run game to a monumental win. Their combined efforts were crucial in pulling off this upset.

No. 2 Star - Eli Bowen, Cornerback

Eli Bowen, the younger Bowen brother, has emerged as one of the best freshman defensive players in the country. He held budding superstar freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams to just two catches, constantly shadowing him throughout the game. Wherever Williams lined up, Bowen was there, and his effectiveness never wavered.

Bowen's interception was a highlight of the game. He read the play before Jalen Milroe even threw it and picked off the pass, completely shutting down an entire facet of Alabama's offense. His performance in coverage and in run support was outstanding, making Jalen Milroe's job even more difficult with the Sooners having bottled up the run game.

No. 3 Star - The Offensive Line

Bill Bedenbaugh's offensive game plan was executed to perfection last night. The offensive line, consisting of Logan Howland at left tackle, Heath Ozaeta at left guard, Troy Everett at center, Febechi Nwaiwu at right guard, and Spencer Brown at right tackle, dominated the Alabama defensive line for 60 minutes.

Watching what Vanderbilt did to Alabama earlier in the season, the Sooners' offensive brain trust knew they could replicate the success. The aggression and movement created by the offensive line didn't let up, even with true freshman Eddy Pierre-Louis rotating in. This game could be a turning point for the younger Sooners offensive linemen, a foundation they can build on for the rest of the season.

Oklahoma's dominance on Saturday night was a testament to their desire, toughness, and physicality. They showed the college football world that they are a force to be reckoned with and left a lasting impression on this memorable season.
