Todd Fisher's Thanksgiving this year holds a special significance as it is measured in the precious moments he shares with his family. His life has been a journey filled with challenges, yet he finds hope and strength in the midst of it all.

A Thanksgiving Tale of Faith and Resilience

Family Moments Amidst Challenges

For Todd Fisher, Thanksgiving is about being with his wife of 30 years, Jamy, and their children Zach, Carly, and Anna. These moments are made even more special when they enjoy the taste of turkey and watch football with full stomachs. But it is also during the daily times of prayer and Scripture reading with Oklahoma Baptists' executive director-treasurer that these moments become truly precious.Fisher's battle with injuries since a July 28 wreck has been a tough one. He had to endure compound fractures to both ankles, a crushed tibia and fibula in his right foot, a compound fracture to his pelvis, an upper left arm injury, nine broken ribs, a cracked L5 vertebrae, and a collapsed lung. He spent 32 days on the trauma floor of Oklahoma University's Medical Center and the Oklahoma City Rehabilitation Hospital. Nerve damage still persists in his arm, and more surgeries are expected on his right ankle.

The Dream and the Turning Point

Fisher is no stranger to people sharing their dreams, and he is cautious about interpreting them. But his dream on the third night in the hospital was a turning point. In the dream, he found himself driving in a dark city with dark beings attempting to drag him out of his truck, saying he shouldn't be alive. But then he knew Jesus was there. This dream reinforced his belief in turning the battle over to God. He realized that he didn't have to fight these things alone; Jesus would fight for him.

God's Timing in the Wreck

As Fisher was driving to Falls Creek in July, two men he didn't know were also on the road. One of them felt God telling him to go back and spend more time with his family and pray with them. Their delay ended up putting them behind Fisher and they were the first on the scene of the wreck that claimed the other driver. These men cut Fisher's seat belt and got him out of the truck. One of them applied pressure to a spot on Fisher's hip, which multiple medical professionals have said saved his life. Fisher is grateful for God's work in these seemingly coincidental events.

Family's Support in the Journey

Since the accident, Fisher's family has been by his side every day. Zach has become his de facto press secretary, handling all the correspondence from well-wishers and media. Jamy has taken on multiple roles as chauffeur, nurse, and cook. Fisher knows that the injuries could have been much worse, and this experience has reminded him that his life isn't his own. It is a part of his story, and he hopes it will pull others closer to Jesus.Overall, Todd Fisher's Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the moments that matter and the faith that has carried him through. He is thankful for everything God has given him through this journey, despite the hard days filled with discouragement and fear. There is so much to be thankful for, and he looks forward to continuing to share these moments with his family.
