Nintendo has confirmed its plan to discontinue the distribution of the original Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED models to retailers and its own online storefront in Europe, effective mid-February 2027. This announcement, subtly made within a support document detailing battery-related updates for its products, marks a significant shift for the popular console line.
The company stated that, approximately ten years after the initial launch of the Nintendo Switch in March 2017, sales of all existing Switch family hardware will cease for European retailers and directly through the Nintendo Store. Despite this, existing owners can expect continued support for their games, accessories, and online services like the eShop and Switch Online for the foreseeable future. This move appears to be a strategic decision to transition away from older hardware, especially with the impending arrival and growing adoption of the next-generation Switch 2, and in light of the original console’s impressive sales record of over 155 million units worldwide.
