Fukuoka: A New Hub for Nintendo Enthusiasts

Nintendo has officially confirmed plans for a new retail location in Fukuoka, Japan. This forthcoming store is anticipated to begin operations before the conclusion of 2025, providing a fresh destination for consumers to engage with the brand's offerings.

Strategic Location and Accessibility

The new Fukuoka store will be housed within JR Hakata City's Amu Plaza, a prominent shopping complex. This mall is recognized for its diverse array of shops, including fashion boutiques, home furnishing stores, and various dining options, ensuring a high volume of visitors.

Fukuoka's Significance in the Japanese Landscape

Fukuoka, ranking as Japan's sixth-largest metropolis and serving as the capital of its namesake prefecture, is situated on the island of Kyushu. Its geographical separation from Honshu, the main island where major cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima are located, underscores Nintendo's strategy to reach a broader audience across the archipelago.

Expanding Global Retail Presence

This upcoming addition in Fukuoka will complement Nintendo's existing Japanese stores in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, the latter of which commenced operations in October 2023. Beyond Japan, Nintendo has also been extending its reach in the United States, with a new outlet in San Francisco recently opening on May 15, 2025, joining the established Nintendo New York store.

Unique Customer Experiences

The grand opening of the San Francisco store featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Nintendo of America President and COO Doug Bowser. These stores are known for offering distinctive experiences, such as the ability for customers to personalize their Switch Joy-Con controllers and acquire miniature collectibles of character figures displayed within the stores.
