"Combating Food Insecurity: Newark Airport's New Partnership"

Table to Table's Impact

Table to Table, with its 25-year history, is now rescuing a wide variety of food from Newark Liberty International Airport. From 'grab and go' sandwiches and salads to snacks at numerous HMSHost and Hudson locations, they are making a substantial difference. As Heather Thompson, the executive director, emphasizes, with three billion meals wasted annually in New Jersey and one million residents facing food insecurity, this partnership is crucial. Every week, the extra food is safely picked up and delivered to those in need. This partnership not only helps relieve hunger but also reduces food waste. As Jordi Martin-Consuegra, the chief operating officer for Avolta in North America, points out, across their 2,000+ travel retail and food and beverage locations in North America, there is a significant opportunity to have a positive impact. By partnering with Table to Table at Newark Liberty International Airport, they ensure that less food ends up in landfills and more reaches those who need it.

Food Rescued and Distributed

Table to Table rescues fresh and nutritious food and distributes it to over 270 partner organizations. These include social service organizations, pantries, shelters, fresh produce markets, and centralized distribution hubs. Through this, they touch the lives of a diverse range of people in need, such as families, children, veterans, and older adults. By providing free food, they make good nutrition accessible and stimulate other long-term benefits.Since 1999, they have rescued an astonishing 109,000 tons of nutritious food, which is enough for over 311 million meals. This not only feeds the hungry but also saves over 72,000 tons of CO2eq from being released into the environment. Their work is truly remarkable and has a far-reaching impact.
