The New Orleans Privateers women’s tennis team concluded their 2023 campaign on Tuesday in the Southland Tournament, falling to the Southeastern Lions in a tightly contested match. After a significant delay due to lightning, the teams battled fiercely, particularly in doubles play. Despite losing the doubles point after an intense tiebreaker at flight three, the Privateers showcased resilience and competitive spirit. In singles action, though Southeastern ultimately triumphed 4-0, several Privateers players pushed their opponents to the brink, highlighting promising individual performances.

Following a nearly three-hour postponement due to adverse weather conditions, the tournament match commenced under challenging circumstances. The Privateers started strong in doubles, countering Southeastern's early lead at flight one with a decisive victory at flight two by Fleur Sprengers and Nouray Khaled. However, the pivotal moment occurred at flight three, where Iris Danne and Ananya Dhankhar faced off against Taisia Bolsova and Claudia Di Leonardo. This encounter stretched into a tiebreaker, which Southeastern narrowly claimed, shifting momentum in their favor.

In singles competition, the Lions capitalized on their earlier advantage. Taisia Bolsova delivered a swift performance, dropping only two games en route to her victory. Bente Bierma further solidified Southeastern's position with another commanding win. Leana Gomez sealed the deal for the Lions, taking both sets decisively. Nevertheless, the Privateers demonstrated tenacity, as evidenced by Sprengers' and Kateryna Kalistratova's first-set victories, along with Nouray Khaled's valiant effort despite trailing in her match.

Though the season has ended, the New Orleans Privateers leave a lasting impression with their grit and determination throughout the year.
