In a recent announcement from the Little River Academy in Texas, Ty Kuhn has been named the new head football coach at Academy ISD. This transition comes after Mark Mullins' two-year tenure in the role. Kuhn is set to begin his duties on March 17, following the district's spring break. Athletic Director Steve Hoffman expressed enthusiasm about Kuhn's appointment, highlighting his dynamic approach and commitment to fostering successful programs. The district anticipates significant positive changes both on and off the field under Kuhn's leadership.
Kuhn's journey in coaching began in 2009 at Frank Seale Middle School within Midlothian ISD. Over the years, he has gained extensive experience across various levels of education. He advanced from middle school to junior high, eventually reaching the high school level where he coached in diverse settings, including 4A, 5A, and 6A districts. His career highlights include stints at Temple High School from 2012 to 2014 and Colleyville High School from 2014 to 2015. Following these experiences, Kuhn spent nearly a decade coaching in 4A districts such as Palestine, Krum, and Lampasas ISD. At Palestine and Krum, he specialized in defensive coordination and strength conditioning. Most recently, Kuhn served as an assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at Lampasas ISD since 2022.
Coach Kuhn's own athletic background adds depth to his coaching philosophy. Recognized as the 3A Defensive Player of the Year in 2003, he was also selected to the 2010 All-Decade Team by the Austin American-Statesman. His prowess on the field earned him First Team All-State Linebacker honors in both 2002 and 2003. Kuhn's personal achievements reflect his dedication and understanding of the sport, which he aims to impart to the students at Academy ISD. "I am honored to join Academy ISD," Kuhn said. "The district's tradition of excellence resonates with me, and I look forward to working with our student-athletes and staff to build upon this legacy."
The arrival of Ty Kuhn marks a new chapter for the Academy ISD football program. His rich history in coaching, combined with his own athletic accolades, positions him well to lead the team towards continued success. The community eagerly awaits the positive transformations expected under his guidance, both in athletic performance and character development of the student-athletes. The Bumblebee community welcomes Kuhn and his family, anticipating their contributions to the district's ongoing tradition of excellence.
