New Commander Decks Unveiled for Magic: The Gathering

Wizards of the Coast has officially unveiled its upcoming lineup of Commander decks for "Secrets of Strixhaven" and "Marvel Super Heroes" at the recent Nuremberg Toy Fair. This announcement introduces nine new preconstructed decks, adding to the growing collection for 2026, which will see a total of 12 new Commander decks released in the first half of the year, including those from "Lorwyn Eclipsed" and "TMNT."

The "Marvel Super Heroes" series will feature four distinct Commander decks: "Avengers Assemble," focusing on Captain America and Nick Fury with mechanics like "grow your ranks" and "equipment and counters"; "Wakanda Forever," led by Black Panther with an emphasis on artifacts and the "Monarch" mechanic; "The Fantastic Four," allowing all four team members as commanders, centered around noncreature spells; and "Doom Prevails," starring Doctor Doom with Loki as an alternative, focusing on "connive for power" and "drain life" strategies. These decks showcase a variety of strategic approaches, with "Wakanda Forever" particularly standing out for its unique green-white artifact and monarch synergy, a departure from traditional green anti-artifact themes.

Preceding the Marvel release, "Secrets of Strixhaven" will launch with five two-color Commander decks, each representing a magical college. These include "Lorehold Spirit" (white-red) for graveyard manipulation, "Prismari Artistry" (blue-red) for powerful spellcasting, "Quandrix Unlimited" (blue-green) for creature swarm tactics, "Silverquill Influence" (white-black) for enchantment-based control, and "Witherbloom Pestilence" (black-green) for life manipulation and opponent draining. This focus on two-color decks offers a refreshing change from the prevalent three-color combinations seen in recent years, allowing for a deeper exploration of each college's unique magical style.

Beyond the Commander decks, both sets will offer a range of products, including play and collector boosters, as well as specialized bundles. "Secrets of Strixhaven" introduces a new Codex Bundle featuring exclusive alternate-art foil versions of popular artifacts, while "Marvel Super Heroes" presents a special gift bundle and two scene boxes that create panoramic art. The return of jumpstart packs further enhances accessibility, allowing players to quickly assemble 40-card decks for immediate play. These diverse offerings underscore a commitment to enriching the Magic: The Gathering experience, encouraging strategic depth and creative deck building, and ultimately fostering a vibrant and engaging community for all players.
