Following the successful launch of "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," Microsoft's gaming division has expressed interest in further developing the iconic franchise. The game, developed by MachineGames, garnered positive reviews and attracted over four million players since its release last December on Xbox and PC platforms. With DLC currently in development and a PlayStation 5 version set to debut shortly, Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, hinted at broader plans for the franchise during an interview with Variety.

Released in December, "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" was praised for its unique take on the legendary character. Set in 1937, the single-player, first-person adventure invites gamers to embark on a thrilling journey across the globe. Players must thwart malevolent forces seeking to exploit an ancient power tied to the mysterious Great Circle. This narrative unfolds between the events depicted in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade." The game's success has sparked renewed interest in expanding the franchise.

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox Game Studios, acknowledged satisfaction with the game's reception. He emphasized the potential longevity of the franchise while remaining tight-lipped about specific future projects. Notably, Spencer highlighted MachineGames' ability to breathe new life into borrowed intellectual property, showcasing their creative prowess. While encouraging further exploration within the Indiana Jones universe, Spencer also underscored the importance of fostering original game concepts and franchises within Microsoft's portfolio.

Douglas Reilly, the leader of Lucasfilm Games, echoed enthusiasm for continuing Indiana Jones' storylines. Reilly noted the vast untapped potential lying between the films, inviting opportunities to craft compelling narratives that enrich the franchise. His vision aligns with Spencer's desire to balance homage to beloved IPs with innovation through original content.

Beyond the immediate focus on "The Order of the Giants," a story-driven DLC slated for release in 2025, both companies appear committed to exploring additional adventures featuring the adventurous archaeologist. By leveraging the acclaim garnered from "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," they aim to build upon this foundation to captivate audiences worldwide, blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling.
