Singles Showdown: WashU Bears Prove Their Mettle
The Bears sent six players to the River Forest tournament, hosted by Northern Illinois, and they made their presence felt in the singles competition. Junior Case Fagan dropped his opening match but quickly bounced back with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Artem Alekseychuk of Illinois-Chicago, finishing the bracket in sixth place. Sophomore Nathan Tam opened the number three bracket with a hard-fought 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (5) win over Kristian Blagoev of Marquette, ultimately finishing fourth. Senior John Fakouri, not to be outdone, won his second match of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Sam Klein of Northern Illinois, finishing fifth in his bracket.Sophomore Daniel Radke also finished fifth in his bracket, securing a middle-round win over Teddy Wong of Marquette, 6-1, 7-6 (6). First-year Avi Mahajan capped off the singles performances with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Michael Schut of Eastern Illinois, finishing seventh in his bracket.Doubles Dominance: WashU Bears Reach the Finals
The Bears' doubles teams showcased their prowess on the clay courts. The duo of junior Colin Scruggs and Fagan teamed up in the top doubles spot and opened with a 7-6 (2) win over a team from Marquette, followed by a 6-2 victory over Eastern Illinois to advance to the final. Alongside the River Forest tournament, the Bears hosted their own one-day invitational event.
