In the heart of Topeka, Kansas, a remarkable event took place early in December. T'z Whiskey Barrel opened its doors on December 8th, not just for a regular gathering but to host a toy drive and a delicious breakfast. This initiative aimed to bring the community together and spread the joy of giving during the holiday season.

Spreading Joy and Giving with T'z Whiskey Barrel

Bringing the Community Together

Brett Peterson, the Toys for Tots Coordinator of NE Kansas, emphasized the importance of this event. "It's a good day to bring the community together and just get with the locals and spread the joy of Toys for Tots and being able to put smiles on the children's faces," he said. The breakfast was primarily for veterans, but everyone was invited to participate and contribute.

Attendees were excited about the variety of food and beverages available. One patron exclaimed, "Scrambled eggs, breakfast burritos, cinnamon rolls. Just about everything. Coffee, mimosas, bloody marys. What else could you ask for?" The breakfast truly offered a delightful experience for all.

The Toy Donation Campaign

This breakfast capped off a remarkable toy donation campaign. Bars in north Topeka competed against each other to see who could donate the most toys. Tim Brey, Co-Owner of T'z Whiskey Barrel, explained, "We kind of put a challenge out there a little bit, you know, to see how much we can do. Not to compete against each other, but just to see how much we can do for the kids in the community. Everybody's participated very, very well, and it's been a fun process for all of us, I think."

The community's response was overwhelming, with multiple filled boxes of toys collected. There were even some bikes among the donations, adding an extra touch of excitement.

Preparing for Distribution

After the breakfast, Marines from Toys for Tots gathered the presents to prepare them for distribution. Peterson was amazed by the sight. "We got we got multiple filled boxes of toys. We got some bikes, we got some hot breakfast for everybody that's here, and it's just a wonderful time."

Toys for Tots will soon distribute their collected presents at the West Ridge Mall in two weeks, ensuring that every child in the community has a special gift for Christmas.
