Expanding Horizons and Enriching Experiences
The Lima Senior Choral Music Department's "Sacred Spaces" performance provides a unique opportunity for their students to explore and engage with sacred music, a genre that many of them may not have experienced regularly. As Amy Phillips, the Lima Senior Choir Director, explains, "Sacred music is not something that a lot of them perform regularly, and they also get to sing the music where it was meant to be sung." This exposure to sacred music in a sacred setting allows the students to broaden their musical horizons and deepen their understanding of the power and significance of this genre.Embracing the Beauty of Sacred Spaces
The choirs' performance at St. Rose Catholic Church offered them a chance to experience the beauty and acoustics of a sacred space, which can be vastly different from their usual high school rehearsal and performance venues. As senior Davyon Williamson shares, "I absolutely love this space, it is amazing, it's beautiful, and performing here, rather than our high school, gives us an opportunity to branch out other than our own school, our own home." The unique setting allows the choirs to explore the nuances of their sound and connect with the sacred nature of the space, creating a truly immersive and transformative experience for both the performers and the audience.Connecting with the Community
The "Sacred Spaces" performance also serves as an opportunity for the Lima Senior Choral Music Department to engage with the local community and share their talents. As senior Sebastian Baughn explains, "Each year we choose a new church, and I always enjoy going out to different ones and getting our voice out in the community and showing them just how much our choir looks really good, and it's always a good time with everybody." This outreach not only allows the choirs to showcase their skills but also fosters a sense of community and connection, as they bring their music to different sacred spaces and share their passion with the local congregations.Preparing for the Festive Season
As the choirs wrap up their "Sacred Spaces" performance, they are already looking ahead to their next big event – "Holiday in Harmony" in December. This annual concert promises to be a delightful celebration of the holiday season, as the students will be performing a variety of holiday hits from Broadway, movies, and television. The choirs' dedication and enthusiasm for their craft are sure to shine through in this highly anticipated performance, leaving the audience filled with the joy and spirit of the holiday season. The Lima Senior Choral Music Department's "Sacred Spaces" performance is a testament to the power of music to transcend boundaries and connect people to the sacred and the divine. Through their soulful renditions of sacred works, the Spartan Singers, Spartanaires, and Masterworks choirs have not only enriched the lives of their audience but have also provided their students with a transformative musical experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.
