In an innovative move, Lily Grabb has transformed the former Super Food & Brew location into a vibrant new eatery that blends Japanese, Filipino, and American culinary traditions. The restaurant, now known as Lily’s Asian-American Food, reopened its doors in early 2025 after Grabb purchased the Downtown establishment over a year ago. Situated at 11 E. Forsyth St., the venue offers a diverse menu inspired by Grabb’s multicultural background and her family’s recipes. Despite limited experience in the food industry, Grabb has enlisted the support of her former boss, Tim Noble, to guide her through this venture. The restaurant features distinct areas, including an Anime Room for business meetings and karaoke, aiming to create a unique dining and entertainment experience.
Grabb, originally from the Philippines but having spent much of her life in Japan, moved to Middleburg, Florida, seven years ago. Her decision to open a restaurant was not initially planned; she had considered other business ventures like gas stations or jewelry stores. However, her passion for connecting with people, nurtured during her time as a server at Kaika Teppanyaki Asian Fusion in Five Points, led her to embrace this new challenge. With Noble’s expertise in managing Asian restaurants, including Sake House and Hawkers, she feels confident about the future of Lily’s Asian-American Food.
The restaurant is strategically located next to the 11 East apartments, a prime spot that Noble believes will see significant growth. He draws parallels between Jacksonville’s potential and the transformation of downtown Tampa and St. Pete over the past decade. Noble also points out the success of nearby establishments like Spliff’s Gastropub and Hardwicks as positive indicators for Lily’s prospects. The interior design of Lily’s is divided into three sections: an Anime Room adorned with large Japanese cartoon characters, suitable for both business meetings and evening karaoke; a central full-service liquor bar; and a secluded dining area offering privacy for guests.
Grabb’s menu reflects her heritage and family influences, featuring dishes such as Miso Salmon, Chicken Adobo, and Oxtail Kare-kare. Prices range from $4 for appetizers to $21 for main courses. Sandwiches include creative options like the Mike’s Cow-Pig Burger. Although Grabb did not grow up cooking alongside her mother, she began honing her culinary skills when her children were young. She continues to drive home daily to prepare dinner for them. Currently employing around 25 staff members, Grabb plans to expand her team based on demand. Lily’s Asian-American Food welcomes guests daily starting at 11:30 a.m., with flexible closing hours.
With its distinctive concept and strategic location, Lily’s Asian-American Food stands ready to become a beloved fixture in Jacksonville’s evolving culinary scene. Grabb’s personal journey and dedication, combined with Noble’s seasoned guidance, position the restaurant well for success. As the city continues to grow, this unique blend of cultures promises to offer patrons an unforgettable dining experience.
