LG has recently shared detailed information about the 2025 QNED evo series that will be showcased at CES 2025 in just a few weeks. This revamped series is set to introduce a new proprietary technology called Dynamic QNED Color, which eliminates the need for quantum dots. Instead, it enables the backlight to express pure colors while achieving at least 93% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. It will be fascinating to get a firsthand look at this new tech and see how it manages to achieve the claimed level of performance without relying on quantum dots.

The Notable LG QNED9M

The LG QNED9M stands out as the most prominent member of the new lineup. It will be LG's second TV to utilize the Zero Connect Box initially introduced with the OLED M series. This allows for wireless 4K viewing and, on the QNED9M, an impressive up to 144Hz refresh rate with AMD FreeSync Premium certification. Additionally, the 9M will feature an ultra-slim design inspired by the C Series, expected to be only 16.4mm thick. While the 2025 QNED series of TVs will include sizes ranging from 40 to 100 inches, it remains unclear exactly how large the QNED9M will be.

The vast majority of coverage on LG TVs typically focuses on its OLED models, and for good reason. The LG G4 and LG C4 are widely regarded as two of the best TVs available, and their respective series have consistently topped various lists for years. With the enhancements LG has announced for its 2025 QNED evo series TVs, there is hope that they will hold their own against the new Samsung Neo QLEDs and even the flagship offerings from Hisense and TCL. The LED TV market has become highly competitive in the past couple of years, and it would be great to see LG play a significant role in this ongoing conversation.

The introduction of AI into the LG Magic Remote is another noteworthy development. Whether you love it or not, AI has become a major talking point and inclusion in products. The remote redesign now includes a new AI button along with Voice ID, which customizes the TV experience based on the user. A quick press of the AI button accesses TV features, while a long press activates an LLM or large language model for personalized searches. The AI takes into account the context of what is on the screen, adding an extra layer of convenience and interactivity.

The a8 AI Processor and Beyond

Today's announcement states that the 2025 QNED evo line will utilize the a8 AI processor. However, according to information provided by LG during a briefing, the QNED9M will instead incorporate the a9 AI 4K Gen8 processor. This enhanced processing power is expected to contribute to the overall performance and user experience of the TV.

As we get closer to CES and LG's press conference on Monday, January 6, 2025, we can expect to learn more details about these exciting developments. The competition in the TV market is fierce, and LG is clearly aiming to make a significant impact with its 2025 QNED evo series. With its innovative technologies and design features, LG is poised to take on the leading brands and offer consumers a truly exceptional viewing experience.
