The Last of Us, a highly acclaimed post-apocalyptic series, may not grace our screens again until 2025. However, star Jeffrey Wright is shedding light on his involvement in the highly-anticipated second season of the HBO series. Wright's connection to the show runs deep, as he originated the role of Isaac Dixon in the video game. "My son was a big fan of the game, and that's how I met Neil Druckmann, the creator," Wright recalls. Druckmann, as Wright points out, is also the driving force behind the series.
Wright's Journey into the "The Last of Us" Universe
"HBO reached out to me and asked if I wanted to be a part of the game," Wright continues. "One of the writers from Westworld, Halley [Wegryn Gross], is also involved in both the game and the series. When I asked my son about "The Last of Us," his excitement was palpable. It was an easy decision to voice the character Isaac Dixon for the game." Wright is just the latest in a line of video game performers making the leap to television. Season 1 already featured Merle Dandridge reprising her role as Fireflies leader Marlene. In the game, Marlene's story ended with Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) making a difficult decision to save Ellie (Bella Ramsey) from being sacrificed. Season 1 also showcased other video game stars like Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who played the video game versions of Ellie and Joel.Regarding his return to the "The Last of Us" universe, Wright says, "It was a joy to go back and bring this character to life in a new way. It's an interesting experience to inhabit his skin." As teased earlier, Isaac is the leader of the Washington Liberation Front in the game.Although Wright couldn't disclose too much about his character's role in Season 2, he teases, "When we introduce Isaac this season, we'll reveal a bit of his history, which is more than what we saw in the game. Get ready, because it's going to be a wild ride."The Last of Us, Season 2 Premiere, 2025, HBO and Max
