A seasoned police officer from the Clark County School District in Las Vegas is under scrutiny following the untimely death of his canine partner. The incident, which occurred in November, has led to an investigation and subsequent charges against 54-year-old James Harris. According to reports, the officer's dog, Marley, a five-year-old American Labrador retriever, was admitted to a local animal hospital for urgent medical care but did not survive.

The investigation revealed that Harris faces two misdemeanor charges related to animal welfare violations. Specifically, he is accused of leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle and failing to provide adequate air, food, shelter, or water. Marley had been serving with the school district’s police force since 2020. While Harris remains on paid administrative leave, his employment history with the district dates back to January 2003, where he has served as a K-9 officer.

This tragic event underscores the critical importance of responsible animal care, especially for those who rely on animals for professional duties. It serves as a poignant reminder of the trust and responsibility that comes with handling service animals, highlighting the need for stringent protocols to ensure their well-being at all times.
