An unfortunate event unfolded on Friday evening when a law enforcement officer was involved in an accident on Interstate 91 in Meriden. Around 7:30 PM, members of Troop I from Bethany arrived at Exit 16 northbound to address a two-vehicle collision that included an officer on duty. The officer had pulled over onto the right shoulder to assist with a vehicle breakdown, with all hazard lights illuminated, when an incident occurred.

A car moving in the right lane veered onto the shoulder and collided with the police vehicle. Both individuals—the assisting officer and the driver of the impacting vehicle—were taken to a nearby medical facility. Fortunately, their injuries were reported as minor. This incident underscores the risks faced by those who provide roadside assistance and highlights the need for heightened caution in work zones and emergency situations.

Road safety is everyone's responsibility. It is crucial for drivers to be vigilant, especially in areas where emergency personnel are present. By exercising extra care and adhering to traffic advisories, we can significantly reduce such accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
