In a significant development in the plant-based food sector, London-based start-up Grubby has secured exclusive rights to the recipes and manufacturing methods of Allplants’ product line. This acquisition follows Allplants’ entry into administration in November 2024 due to financial difficulties. Grubby plans to reintroduce Allplants’ ready meals, desserts, breakfast pots, and side dishes under its own brand, expanding its product offerings across various channels. The move underscores Grubby's commitment to innovation and meeting the growing demand for convenient, plant-based meals.

Founded by brothers Jonathan and Alex Petrides, Allplants had established itself as a leading UK direct-to-consumer vegan meal brand. However, the company faced considerable financial challenges, leading to its administration. While some assets were acquired by Plants, a venture led by Deliciously Ella founder Ella Mills, the actual recipes were not included in that deal. Grubby saw an opportunity to bring these beloved products back to market, honoring the dedication and effort put into their development by the Allplants team.

Martin Holden-White, the founder of Grubby, expressed enthusiasm about this acquisition. He highlighted the strong consumer affection for Allplants' products and emphasized Grubby's intention to continue the legacy of innovation. “We see this as a fantastic opportunity to revive these much-loved products for customers,” Holden-White stated. “The Allplants team spent years perfecting this range, and there is real consumer love for the products.”

The integration of Allplants’ offerings into Grubby’s ecosystem aligns perfectly with the company’s mission to make plant-based eating more accessible and enjoyable. Grubby has already seen success with its online marketplace, particularly with desserts and breakfast pots. Holden-White noted that bringing this range into the Grubby portfolio makes sense, as it caters to customer demands for more plant-based options beyond dinner. The company is currently in talks with manufacturing partners who share its B Corp values to help produce and reintroduce the meals to the market.

Natasha Harbinson, director at Interpath, who facilitated the transaction on behalf of the joint administrators, commented positively on the deal. She mentioned that Allplants had a loyal following and expressed confidence that customers would be thrilled to see the range return. This acquisition not only breathes new life into Allplants' products but also strengthens Grubby’s position in the competitive plant-based food market.

This strategic move by Grubby promises to enhance its product lineup and cater to the increasing appetite for plant-based meals. By reintroducing Allplants' offerings, Grubby aims to provide consumers with more diverse and delicious options while continuing to innovate in the plant-based food sector. The collaboration between Grubby and the manufacturing partners will likely lead to exciting developments in the coming months, ensuring that these beloved products find their way back to customers’ tables.
