The Ottawa University men's tennis team showcased their talent and resilience at the recent KCAC Individual Championships, held in Lindsborg, Kansas. Dominating the Singles Competitions
The Braves' singles players delivered a series of remarkable performances, with several athletes securing podium finishes. Oscar Giorgio, competing in the no. 2 singles category, showcased his skill and determination, finishing the tournament with a commendable 3-1 record. Giorgio's journey included victories over opponents from Kansas Wesleyan University, Sterling College, and Bethel College, before falling to McPherson College's Arthur Nardy in the finals.In the no. 1 singles competition, Jarmo Perez Wienese also made his mark. Perez Wienese secured a round one victory against Soleymon Claiborne from Southwestern College and a thrilling 9-8(3) win over Pedro Felipoff from Sterling College. Although he fell short in the semifinals against McPherson College's Marcus Nardy, Perez Wienese rebounded to claim third place, defeating Francisco Bravo from Bethany College.Bernardo Figueiredo, competing in the no. 4 singles category, showcased his resilience and skill. Figueiredo won his first two matches against opponents from Southwestern College and Friends University before falling to Bethel College's Billy Haoda in the semifinals. Undeterred, Figueiredo bounced back to claim third place, defeating Paul Jittawait from Kansas Wesleyan University.Valentin Corriger, playing in the no. 5 singles, also made a strong impression. Corriger secured a quarterfinal victory over Santiago Garcia from the University of Saint Mary and followed it up with a third-place finish, defeating Rubern Bogomoltz from Sterling College.Doubles Duos Shine
The Braves' doubles teams also demonstrated their prowess on the court. In the no. 1 doubles competition, Corriger and Perez Wienese faced a tough challenge, falling in the quarterfinals to the Sterling College duo of Alex Gaboardi and Abhyudit Nagar.However, the Figueiredo brothers, Bernardo and Luis, shone in the no. 3 doubles category. The duo won their round one match against Avila University's Dominic Lunn and Aidan Vandegrift and followed it up with a quarterfinal victory over Robin Baransi and David Garces of Sterling College. Although they fell short in a close semifinal match against Bethel College's Bergeron and Sanchez, the Figueiredo brothers rebounded to claim third place, defeating the Friends University pair of Auron Hoyer and Connor Fitzsimmons.Preparing for the ITA Fall Regional Championships
