Steve McNees, a former college assistant and standout high school player, has been appointed as the new boys basketball coach at Pine-Richland High School. Known for his impressive scoring record and extensive experience in collegiate basketball, McNees brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. With a background that includes playing under renowned coach Keith Dambrot and serving as Director of Basketball Operations at both Akron and Duquesne, McNees is set to make a significant impact on the team's future.

Steve McNees' journey in basketball began with a remarkable high school career where he scored 2,192 points and achieved averages of 28.4 points, 8.0 assists, and 6.9 rebounds per game during his senior year. His accolades include being named to the Trib’s Terrific 10 in 2006 and setting multiple school records for career assists and steals. These accomplishments highlight his exceptional skills and dedication to the sport from an early age.

Beyond his individual achievements, McNees’ family has deep roots in basketball. His father, Bill, enjoyed a successful coaching career at Shenango, winning over 300 games. This familial connection to the sport undoubtedly influenced McNees’ development and passion for basketball. His high school dominance positioned him well for a transition into collegiate play, where he continued to excel and contribute significantly to his teams' successes.

A Promising Future at Pine-Richland

Replacing outgoing coach Bob Petcash, McNees steps into a role that demands both leadership and strategic insight. As a four-year letterwinner under coach Keith Dambrot at Akron, McNees played a pivotal part in two Mid-American Conference tournament victories and multiple appearances in prestigious tournaments such as the NCAA Tournament, NIT, and CBI. His tenure at Akron also saw him break the school record for games played, appearing in 141 out of 142 possible games.

McNees’ experience extends beyond playing, having held the position of Director of Basketball Operations at both Akron and Duquesne. This administrative expertise complements his on-court abilities, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to build a successful basketball program.
