Florida State football has made a significant move by landing its quarterback in the transfer portal. This acquisition is set to have a major impact on the team's future. After taking his official visit on Wednesday, Thomas Castellanos decided to commit to the Seminoles. "Florida State has always been my dream school," Castellanos told Noles247. "I've been saying that since high school. It's always been my dream school. I've had family go there, play there. Just to carry on the tradition and just come back home, back to the south, get out of the cold and be around former friends and family. Just to play for a rich tradition."

Reuniting with Gus Malzahn

One of the key factors in Castellanos's decision to join the Seminoles is reuniting with recently hired offensive coordinator, Gus Malzahn, and playing in his offensive scheme. Castellanos started his career at UCF in 2021, where Malzahn was the head coach. FSU also recruited the Georgia native as a three-star prospect out of high school. This connection is expected to bring a new level of excitement and potential to the team's offense. 1: The reunion with Malzahn gives Castellanos a familiar coaching environment and a system that he is familiar with. This can help him quickly adapt to the Seminoles and make an immediate impact on the field. Malzahn is known for his innovative offensive strategies and his ability to get the most out of his quarterbacks. Castellanos will have the opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business and apply his skills in the FSU offense. 2: The addition of Castellanos and his connection to Malzahn also brings a sense of stability to the quarterback position. After losing freshman quarterback Luke Kromenhoek to the portal, having a guaranteed quarterback option is crucial for the team's success. Castellanos's experience and talent will provide the Seminoles with a reliable option under center and give them a better chance of competing in the upcoming seasons.

Previous Matchups Against FSU

FSU has faced Castellanos in the last two seasons, and the Seminoles have struggled against the 5-foot-9 QB. In Week 2, Castellano scored three total touchdowns at Doak Campbell Stadium while throwing for 106 yards and rushing for 73 yards in BC's victory over FSU. Last year, Castellanos threw for 305 passing yards and rushed for 95 yards with two total scores and nearly upset the unbeaten Seminoles, 31-29. 1: These matchups have shown that Castellanos is a tough opponent for the Seminoles. He has the ability to make big plays both through the air and on the ground. The Seminoles will need to find a way to defend against his skills and limit his impact on the game. It will be a challenge for the FSU defense to contain Castellanos and prevent him from leading his team to victory. 2: However, the Seminoles also have the opportunity to learn from these past matchups and make adjustments to their defensive strategy. By studying Castellanos's tendencies and weaknesses, the FSU defense can be better prepared to face him in the future. This experience can help the team grow and improve their defensive performance against similar opponents.

Transfer Portal Players at FSU

In addition to Castellanos, there are several other scholarship players in the transfer portal at FSU. 1: Jerrale Powers, RS-So., TE, 12-9; Brian Cortney, Jr., TE, 12-9; Darion Williamson, RS-Sr., Wr. 12-9; Lamont Green Jr., RS-Fr., DL – 12/9; Julian Armella, RS-So., OL – 12/9; Destyn Hill, So., Wr – 12/9; Omar Graham Jr., RS-So., LB – 12/8; Omarion Cooper, Sr., DB -12/8; Tomiwa Duorjaiye, RS-So., DL -12/8; Byron Turner Jr., RS-JR., DE – 12/6; Jackson West, RS-Jr., TE -12/6; Deuce Spann, Sr., Wr – 11/29. These players bring a diverse set of skills and experiences to the team and could potentially make an impact in the upcoming seasons. 2: The addition of these transfer portal players adds depth and competition to the FSU roster. It gives the coaching staff more options to choose from and allows them to build a stronger team. Each of these players has something to offer and will have the opportunity to prove themselves on the field.Peter Holland Jr. covers Florida State athletics for Tallahassee Democrat.
