The Ford Mustang GTD has undeniably established its supercar credentials. This most hardcore version of the seventh-generation 'Stang has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the fastest American production car in Nürburgring history. It completed the notorious Nordschleife circuit in under seven minutes, a first for a U.S.-made vehicle, and beat the previous record by over four seconds.

Unleash the Power of the Ford Mustang GTD

Record-Breaking Performance

Driven by Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller, the high-performance muscle car set the record on August 7. During one run, the powerful two-door was able to lap the 12.94-mile "Green Hell" in 6:57:685 minutes. This time may be a distance from the overall production car record set by the Mercedes-AMG One earlier this fall, but it positions the Mustang GTD as the fifth-fastest production sports car, matching the Porsche 918 Spyder's time and beating the Ferrari 296 GTB and Lamborghini Aventador Super Veloce. It also surpassed the previous American record holder, the Dodge Viper ACR, by 4.3 seconds. The carbon-fiber body with an active aero kit and the front-mounted supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 engine, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch rear-transaxle gearbox, produce an astonishing 815 horses and 664 ft lbs of torque. This is 300 hp more than the Mustang GT3 race car, which is limited to around 500 hp due to motorsports rules. It's reported that the car was limited to just three runs on the day it set the record due to the weather.

Track Dominance at Its Core

What's truly remarkable is that Ford seems convinced the Mustang GTD could achieve even better times. Given that it was designed specifically for track dominance while remaining street-legal, this isn't surprising. The attention to detail in its construction, from the carbon-fiber body to the advanced aero kit, ensures optimal performance on the track. The power and torque delivered by the engine allow it to accelerate and handle with precision. It's a machine built to dominate the racetrack and leave competitors in the dust.
