The opening race of the Southern Nevada Dwarf Car Racing Association season saw an exciting victory for Orey Woods and a third-place finish for his father, Stacey Woods. The event took place on January 18th at the Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu, Arizona. This achievement marks a significant moment for the local racing legends known as PigsFeed Racing, who managed to secure top positions despite competing on an unfamiliar asphalt surface. Orey's strategic driving and perseverance allowed him to rise from a 13th qualifying position to take the lead with just 10 laps remaining, leading to a memorable day for both the family and their supporters.
The Woods family has been involved in racing for several years, transitioning from dirt tracks to asphalt surfaces. For this particular event, the transition posed a challenge, especially since they typically compete on dirt. Despite these difficulties, Orey maintained a consistent line during the race, which enabled him to pass several competitors, including his father, Stacey. After the first caution flag, Orey moved up from 13th to fifth place. Following a restart, a multi-car collision pushed him into second place. With exceptional skill and focus, he capitalized on the opportunity to take the lead with only 10 laps left, ultimately crossing the finish line in first place.
PigsFeed Racing, formerly known as Dirt Pig Racing, has evolved over the years to include various family members and friends. The team has achieved numerous accolades, with Stacey winning a championship in the 2019-2020 season. On this occasion, Destry Woods, another member of the family, had the chance to witness his father's success firsthand due to the postponement of another racing event. This unexpected turn of events allowed Destry to cheer on his family while supporting them from the sidelines.
Orey expressed gratitude for the win and acknowledged the support of his wife, family, and sponsors such as PigsFeed, Instant Images, and Izzy’s Injectors. As the vice president of the association, he is now focused on securing sponsors for the upcoming Western States Nationals scheduled for February 27 through March 1. The family remains dedicated to their passion for racing and continues to seek opportunities for growth and success within the community.
