Bringing the Iconic Milwaukee Brewers' Racing Sausages to Life: A LEGO Enthusiast's Quest

In a captivating intersection of sports, nostalgia, and the boundless creativity of LEGO, a former Milwaukee resident has set out to immortalize the beloved Milwaukee Brewers' Famous Racing Sausages in the form of an official LEGO set. This ambitious project, spearheaded by Todd Elliott, a LEGO enthusiast and avid marathon runner, has garnered significant attention and support from Brewers fans worldwide.

Unlocking the Potential of a Beloved Brewers Tradition

Bringing the Racing Sausages to the LEGO Realm

Todd Elliott, a Philadelphia-based Army veteran and 61-time marathon runner, has long been a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and their iconic Racing Sausages tradition. Inspired by the plush toys he had purchased for his children years ago, Elliott decided to embark on a mission to immortalize this beloved Brewers tradition in the form of a LEGO set. Using the LEGO ideating software, Studio by BrickLink, Elliott meticulously designed six figurines representing the famous Racing Sausages, including Bratwurst, Polish Sausage, Italian Sausage, Hot Dog, Chorizo, and the beloved mascot, Bernie Brewer.

The LEGO Ideas Journey: Gaining Momentum and Support

Elliott's LEGO set design was posted on the LEGO Ideas platform, a community-driven initiative where users can share their ideas and potentially see them become official LEGO products. To achieve this, the designs must first garner 10,000 votes from LEGO Ideas users. Elliott's project has already reached two significant milestones, receiving over 100 votes within the first 60 days and surpassing 1,000 votes within the first year. As of now, the project has amassed more than 1,600 votes, with Brewers fans enthusiastically supporting the endeavor in the comments section.

The Road Ahead: Reaching the 10,000-Vote Milestone

Elliott's LEGO set design now faces the challenge of reaching the 10,000-vote threshold within the next six months. If successful, the project will then enter a review process by LEGO, where the company evaluates the design's potential as a successful product. Elliott is hopeful that if the project can reach the 10,000-vote mark by the end of the year, it may be included in LEGO's January review, potentially leading to the set's availability for the start of the next baseball season.

The Personal Connection: A Lifelong Love for LEGO and Wisconsin Sports

Elliott's passion for this project extends beyond his admiration for the Milwaukee Brewers and their iconic Racing Sausages. As a lifelong LEGO enthusiast, he rediscovered his love for the building blocks during the COVID-19 lockdowns, which inspired him to create this unique LEGO set. Elliott's connection to Wisconsin sports also runs deep, as he and his family became avid fans after living in Chicago and Milwaukee for several years before settling in Philadelphia.

The Intricate Design Process: Bringing the Sausages to Life in LEGO

The process of designing the LEGO set was a labor of love for Elliott. He began by creating the Polish Sausage figurine, which he described as taking a few hours to complete. The subsequent sausage designs were simpler, as they utilized a similar template with variations in color and accessories. Each figurine is approximately 9 inches high and 4 inches wide, comprising around 500 LEGO bricks.

The Future of the LEGO Set: Potential Configurations and Availability

If the LEGO set is approved, it remains to be seen whether the six figurines will be sold as a single set or individually. LEGO will ultimately make the decision on the final product configuration. Brewers fans eagerly await the potential availability of this unique LEGO set, which could coincide with the start of the next baseball season if the project continues to gain momentum and secures the necessary votes.
