The opening round of the 2025 IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge at Daytona International Speedway showcased thrilling performances and unexpected twists. Valentino Catalano emerged victorious in the Le Mans Prototype 3 (P3) class after a closely contested battle with his teammate, while Adam Adelson secured a dominant win in the inaugural Grand Touring Daytona X (GTDX) class.

In the Grand Sport X (GSX) category, Kiko Porto clinched an unexpected victory on the final lap, adding drama to an already intense race. Throughout the weekend, drivers faced challenges that tested their skills and strategies, culminating in memorable finishes.

Catalano's triumph in the P3 class highlighted strategic driving and resilience. Starting from pole position, Catalano maintained a steady lead but briefly lost it during a pit stop exchange. Despite this, he reclaimed the top spot and held it until the checkered flag. His teammate, Markus Pommer, initially finished second but received a penalty for a false start, dropping him to third. This promoted Brady Golan to second place, who made a remarkable recovery from the back of the grid due to a pre-race penalty.

Meanwhile, Adam Adelson set the pace in the GTDX class debut. Driving for Wright Motorsports, Adelson led every lap and built a significant gap over his competitors. The competition behind him was fierce, particularly among three Ferrari 296 GT3 cars and a BMW M4 GT3. AJ Muss, starting from the rear due to a qualifying penalty, charged through the field to finish second, just ahead of teammate Matias Perez Companc.

The GSX class saw an exciting conclusion when Porto overtook Steven Clemons on the last lap. Clemons' car unexpectedly slowed down as they entered NASCAR Turns 3 and 4, allowing Porto to seize the opportunity. Gregory Liefooghe finished second, followed closely by Patrick Wilmot, who had joined Swish Motorsports at the last minute. The Bronze Cup also saw a late change, with Rob Walker emerging as the top Bronze driver in GSX.
