European Commission Imposes Substantial Fine on Google for Anti-Competitive Advertising Practices

The European Commission has recently imposed a hefty €2.95 billion (approximately $3.5 billion) penalty on Google, asserting that the company has exploited its leading position in the advertising technology market. This substantial fine stems from a thorough inquiry by the Commission, which concluded that Google's actions have led to escalated expenses for businesses engaged in advertising and publishing, potentially affecting consumer prices as well.

In response to this ruling, the European Commission has mandated that Google devise and submit a comprehensive plan to rectify its anti-competitive conduct within a strict 60-day timeframe. The Commission explicitly stated that failure to present a satisfactory proposal would result in further, more stringent measures, possibly including orders for Google to divest specific components of its advertising technology enterprise.
