The Elon University community is deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of assistant men’s basketball coach Stacey Palmore. Esteemed for his dedication and faith, Palmore left an indelible mark on both the university and the broader college basketball landscape. Director of Athletics Jenn Strawley expressed profound grief over the passing, highlighting Palmore's significant influence on student-athletes and the program. His contributions were pivotal in guiding the Phoenix to one of its most successful Division I seasons last year. The university extends heartfelt condolences to Palmore's son Jaden, his family, and the entire men's basketball team.

Palmore joined Elon’s coaching staff in 2022, collaborating closely with head coach Billy Taylor to enhance the basketball program. Before arriving at Elon, he had a storied career as an assistant coach at institutions like USC Upstate, Coastal Carolina, and Georgia. At Georgia, Palmore mentored three players who later entered the NBA. Earlier in his career, he spent five years at Virginia Tech, where he earned acclaim as one of the ACC’s top assistant coaches due to his prowess in recruiting and player development. His tenure there saw him guide several athletes into professional basketball careers.

Prior to his coaching journey, Palmore graduated from Livingstone College in 1993, excelling in both basketball and golf during his collegiate years. As a standout player, he ranked among the top nationally in 3-point field goal percentage and served as co-captain during his final two seasons. These experiences laid the foundation for his future success as a coach.

Stacey Palmore’s legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched and the programs he helped elevate. His passion, commitment, and leadership have left a lasting impact that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. The Elon University community mourns his loss but celebrates the profound contributions he made during his time there.
