This year's season will span 75 days, kicking off on Wednesday, May 14th. For the majority of the season, races will be held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. However, the calendar becomes even more vibrant at the end of May with a beach-themed day, featuring races named after local landmarks like Rehoboth and Cape Henlopen. Throughout the summer, visitors can also look forward to various themed days, including an event dedicated to Autism Awareness and likely a special day for canine lovers.

A key highlight of this year's schedule is the strategic placement of significant races. The season begins and ends with major events, setting a thrilling tone from start to finish. On June 14th, Delaware Park will host its inaugural Delaware Derby, strategically positioned just after the Triple Crown season concludes with the Belmont Stakes. According to Jed Doro, the director of racing, this timing aims to attract promising three-year-olds looking for a competitive yet less intense race before preparing for prestigious events like the Haskell or Travers at Saratoga. The Delaware Oaks will also take place on the same day as the Delaware Derby, adding another layer of excitement.

As the season progresses, the focus shifts to the Delaware Handicap, traditionally held in July but now rescheduled to Sunday, September 28th. This change is intended to capitalize on cooler temperatures, potentially attracting top-tier mares. The new date aligns well with the Breeder’s Cup and follows the Personal Ensign race at Saratoga in August, making it an attractive option for elite horses. In total, the season features 18 stakes races with a combined purse of $2.925 million. The season will conclude on Saturday, October 11th, with daily first post times set for 12:45 p.m.
