Mastering the Grid Method: A Technique Fit for Masters

On September 21st, DCCA will host a workshop led by St. Marys artist Debbie Gregory, where participants aged 14 and above will delve into the captivating grid method. This technique, employed by renowned artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Johannes Vermeer, involves breaking down a scene into equally-sized squares and then recreating it on a larger scale. Debbie, a versatile artist who works with oils, watercolor, acrylics, and pastels, will guide students through the process of transforming a landscape photograph into a stunning 9x12 acrylic painting. Participants will not only learn the grid method but also have the opportunity to explore the unique challenges and joys of each medium, as Debbie shares her personal experiences.

On October 8th, DCCA invites students aged 14 and above to explore the art of paint pouring under the tutelage of Jennifer Overholser. This technique, which can be mastered by artists of all skill levels, including those who believe they lack artistic abilities, allows participants to create mesmerizing abstract designs by mixing and manipulating paints. Jennifer promises that this session will be a fun and fulfilling experience, where students will learn to harness the power of paint and transform it into their own unique masterpieces.

Capturing the Beauty of Nature: Plein Air Workshop with Angie Siefring

From October 4th to November 1st, the Anna Bier Gallery will showcase the vibrant and expressive works of Angie Siefring, a St. Henry native who now resides in the Columbus area. Angie's paintings are a celebration of the "beautiful light that surrounds us in nature," bursting with color and emotion. On October 12th, Angie will lead a plein air workshop, beginning with a demonstration at 9 a.m. and followed by individual instruction as participants create their own artistic works using their own supplies. This exciting opportunity allows artists to hone their skills while immersing themselves in the beauty of the great outdoors during the autumn season.

Spooky, Funny, or Cute: Mask Decorating Workshop for Young Artists

Just in time for Halloween, the Anna Bier Gallery will host a mask decorating workshop for students aged 8 to 15 on October 28th. Under the guidance of Jennifer Overholser, participants will have the chance to unleash their creativity and craft a one-of-a-kind mask, whether it be spooky, funny, whimsical, or cute.
