Concord Players Unload Trove of Theatrical Treasures in Massive Tag Sale

The Concord Players, a beloved community theater group, is embarking on a massive purge of their extensive collection of theatrical props, costumes, and equipment. In a two-day indoor tag sale on September 14 and 15, the group will offer a diverse array of items, from vintage clothing and antique furniture to arts and crafts supplies and even old scripts, all sourced from the basement storage of their historic 1887 building.

Streamlining for the Future

The Concord Players' decision to hold this tag sale is a necessary step in their ongoing efforts to streamline their operations and make the most of their limited storage space. With the recent installation of a new ventilation and air conditioning system in the main hall, the basement's storage capacity has been reduced by a third, forcing the group to reevaluate their extensive collection of theatrical artifacts.Andrea Roessler, the vice president of operations and a set dresser for the Concord Players, explains the rationale behind this purge project. "We just can't keep it all," she says, referring to the vast array of vintage clothing, luggage, housewares, tools, arts and crafts supplies, silk flowers, furniture, and lamps that have accumulated over the years.

A Treasure Trove Awaits

The tag sale promises to be a veritable treasure hunt for bargain-seekers and theater enthusiasts alike. Among the items up for grabs are a set of old band uniforms, a witch's cape, an antique pitchfork, and even strips of wall molding – all remnants of the Concord Players' rich theatrical history.Roessler and her team have meticulously sorted through the overflowing rooms, carefully cataloging and organizing the items that have either played a role in past productions or were waiting to be used. This process, which Roessler describes as "an enormous but gratifying project," would undoubtedly earn the approval of professional organizer Marie Kondo.

Diverse Offerings, Unique Finds

While some of the items on offer are specific to the theater, such as vintage costumes and props, the majority of the sale items are more general in nature. Roessler notes that these include "an old cola cooler, antique toaster, evening gowns and tuxes, and a pair of vintage adding machines" – items that may have been donated to the group over the years but have never found a use in their productions. The Concord Players are taking a flexible approach to the sale, with some items being offered for free, though they would appreciate a donation. The group also plans to donate any leftover items to local organizations, including schools and other theater groups, ensuring that these unique treasures find a new home.

Supporting the Concord Players

The tag sale is not just an opportunity for bargain hunters to uncover hidden gems; it's also a chance to support the Concord Players and their ongoing efforts to maintain their historic home and continue their tradition of community theater. The proceeds from the sale will help offset the costs associated with the recent construction project, including the rebuilding of the costume room and the purchase of new shelving and racks. As Roessler enthusiastically invites the public to "come support the Players," she promises that visitors might just find "an awesome treasure" among the diverse offerings. The two-day event, taking place on September 14 and 15 at The Center for Performing Arts at 51 Walden, is sure to be a must-visit destination for anyone with a passion for theater, vintage finds, or simply the thrill of the hunt.
